We have simplified saving to folders. After following Pam's directions to
connect to your file server, go back to your desktop and click once on the
icon for your file server--mine is named "home". Then use the Apple command
key and the m key to make an alias. You can then rename it if you want, and
go to "file/label" and choose a color to make it stand out. Now when you
want to save, you can go to "file/save/desktop" and the colored alias will
appear in the window. just double-click on the alias and you can go to the
teacher folders on the server without having to go to apple/chooser. It
saves quite a few steps.

Also, we have trained our students to log to the file server as soon as
they sit down at the computer, then we know they are connected to the right
teacher folder when it is time to save. They can just double-click on the
alias that is on the desktop.

Also, when you go to Apple/Chooser to connect to the file server, You can
click on the box to the far right of the file server, notice the box below
that says "Checked items will be opened at sysem startup time". Now when
the machine starts up, it is ready for the logon name and password to be
entered. My liaison has each class go to "Special/resart" before they
leave, then the machines are ready for the next class to log to the server.

It takes some time to get it set up initially, but saves a lot of time and
frustration down the road. When they are finished, they drag the home icon
to the trash--remind them to leave the colored one and "trash" the white
one.
