Hi is anyone having trouble with AbcMouse the free we were able to get and use for any number of students? Our students love it but we have been having trouble with it. Just recently when students change user and click on their class name it automatically changes to 1 student. This happens on many computers in the lab. I have contacted them and no response. There was something earlier that I contacted them on and no response. Thanks

Hi Hope you all had a wonderful summer and are having a great start to the year. Does any one know of any sites for Math and/or Language Arts that is like SmartMath that keeps track of what students has done?
My principal wants me to do a bulletin board on Technology in the 21st century. Any ideas? Do you know of any where I can get posters, etc?
Pinterest has some really great ideas and so does teachers pay teachers... I'll Xtra math is one you already know of. I'll try to think of some others...

Hi Guys, I am hoping to get some feedback on solutions for saving work that is done in the lab for the younger kids (1-3). We are currently just logging in as the student AD Login and then saving on the local computer, but this poses a problem when a hard drive goes out. At re-image: everything is lost. It also makes it difficult when the teacher would like an electronic copy of the kid's work. Have any of you found a solution for this? Moving forward to next year, I would like to have something in place. Going around
Jenn, My students send to their teachers via email. The teacher here decided it was the easiest for them all. Robin

Jenn, Oh my I was having a day yesterday, I didn't fully read the message yesterday, plus I think my brain has left the building, so if any one finds it, please return it, postage will be paid. Third through sixth grade uses email, although I do have some second graders that are more than capable. I apologize if I freaked everyone out. I need to read before responding... gets me into trouble some days. Robin
No worries! Tis the time of the year! I could probably go down to 3rd as well. My problem is that for example, I have 70+ first grade powerpoints over 20 computers and the only way to get them is with a thumb drive. I wish there was some kind of way to get a share like we had with the drives in previous years :/ Jenn
There does need to be something for those younger kids to save on. If you find anything out please let me know. I'm in the same boat!!

We were practicing on the AZ merit sample test and the links disappeared. I was told that they are suppose to have a new sample test up soon but, it is still not up. I have been using the Florida state test which I am told that it is comparable to the AZ merit. The Florida training test is located at faassesments.org .
We have done both. But Az Merit took their sample test down. So we have been doing Sage. Found at sageportal.org. I think Sage is more difficult then Az Merit, and I believe it's what they are basing Az Merit on. I have not seen the florida training test. I will look at those.
I started using the sage portal Utah test and it kept having us reload so I switched to the Florida test. Let me know if you have the same problem.

In general, just the desk tops, unless the teachers have lesson plans in the room where they may use, other devices. But most just have access to the desktops.

Hi Ladies, Can you let me know if your school uses the AR program, We are looking into how much it actually cost, and who in the district is using it still.
If there are any Ren Place issues, please call me, I track problems that occur for WEB AR.
Thanks Debbie

Hi all, Just wanted to follow-up with some new info. The $200 avervision document camera is the low-end document camera. I was demonstrating on the 150 version. It is the next level up. So.... the cheap $200 doc camera may not be a great deal after all. Janine Gearhart, my boss, can answer any questions about the camera.

Here are the notes I made for Novembers Meeting. If you attended and have anything to add, please do!
Ed Tech is hoping to have all of the Lenovo (tablet thingies) to the teachers by winter break. Classified won't be getting them. Training is usually right after the devices arrive. It would be a good idea for us to talk with our admins about being a part of that training. There is a device called a wi-di that will allow the Lenovo's to talk wirelessly to the projectors that will also be installed.

We have just started having our kids login to their own Active Directory account so they can save their documents. I understand their is suppose to be class folders in the "Mesa Share" that they can save to, so the teacher can get to the documents. Does anyone know about this and how it works?
As far as I know, currently "Mesa Share" is for Jr High and higher. At my elementary, the kids have been saving into their "documents" file once they have signed onto their Active Directory account. The "documents" file follows them where ever they log on.

Mandy, Do you think the google drive is a better idea than the Active directory log on?
Is the username and password the same? or what is it?
Thanks for replying Lori

Mandy, Hi can you give me some more info. on My 5th and 6th graders can create an email with MPS connect and then they save on their google drive. That way they can share the doc with their teacher and work on it from any pc.
Thanks

HI Can anyone meet here at Falcon Hill next Wednesday at 12:30 for a meeting? I asked Jason and haven't heard yet from him. If there is nothing anyone would like to discuss we don't have to meet but we would like to invite all the lab aide/techs who are new. Thank you.
I would love to come. I have many questions to ask about 8.1 Cathy

I have a feeling that they are having a hard enough time just getting everyone up and running. It's been a rough start for technology this year! Hang tight. I am sure there will be solutions. We are using the basic log ins in our lab stu137 is that what you guys are doing? Jenn
The principals have received information about this. Each student has their own Active Directory log on, and they will be able to save things in MPS Share in the "classes" folder if they are logged on with Active Directory. I am having the fourth through sixth do this this year, but IS has told me that next year, it will go down to third grade. The younger classes will still be able to use the stu149 and Mesa2014.
Yes we are using the basic log ins here at Holmes. I haven't pushed on the Students Share because of that plus I swamped trying to help teachers with the new technology.

Yes for now. Most of the student log in wouldn't work. I had a tech in here yesterday and they finally got it fixed.

Laura, If they are logged in, is there a way for us to put information into their "classes" folder. For example, I am scanning pictures for a powerpoint for 6th grade. Is there a way for me to share those images to them rather than thumb drive them to each kid? Jenn

Jenn, Can the students save in my documents once log in with their student accounts? Thanks

Here at Red Mountain the 3rd through 6th are logging in under AD. 2-K are stu. It would be nice if they had everyone on the same page. We got that direction from the IS.

yes, it does save in my documents on the local machine when logged in as student

And of course, MPS Share didn't allow them to save. I had them save in "documents" under their own AD account.

I was told by Edtech, when we had a teacher meeting in the la,b that the student datastore is gone. There is not something like that with this new setup. They told me the folder you see in MPS Share labeled Classes is for Jr and Sr High Schools. They also told me that they could use Google cloud by using their own username and password. I told them that would not work easily in elementary school. These kids work on reports for weeks at a time, we need something like the old datastore.
Probably could do that with Lan School, but we don't have it (yet).

Hi ladies, Jason has told me that he can do an online training for windows 8.1. It sounds like something that will be scheduled at a certain time. Is there a day that works for all of you? Please respond so I know I have the correct email, and if I'm missing someone let me know. Thanks, Mandy Smith Red Mountain Ranch
If you know someone who is not receiving emails about Lab Tech stuff, you should suggest they subscribe to the ListServe for MPS Lab Techs. There is an archive of all communications since the listserve was established as well as a subscribe/unsubscribe button on this page: http://netpals.lsoft.com/scripts/wa-NETPALS.exe?A0=MPS-LABTECHS
If you are receiving emails both through the listserve as well as on my contact list shown, please let me know. If we are all on the listserve, it seems that would be a more efficient way to communicate with each other. Thanks!
Thanks for the updates Lora Linn. I have been getting them. Much appreciated. Have a great summer!

If you are getting the emails through the listserve, you will need to go in on the link in my original email and find the unsubscribe button. I can only take off those who I have been directly emailing. Sorry.

A Meeting place on Tuesday. What time works well for you?

Everyone can come here on Tuesday, I have one class at 10:20 for 30 minutes, so the lab is clear from 8-10:15 then 10:15 to the end of the day. I'm located on Horne between Southern and Broadway. Horne is located between Stapley and Mesa Dr.
I would prefer a morning time, but I'm flexible and will go with what ever the majority wants.

We had a really good turnout for the meeting. Jason Jacobson from Ed Tech was here.
We discussed the rollout for Windows 8: >Windows 7 is currently being tested on some computers (mostly office area staff and not all schools) >Eventually saving to My Documents will save documents to some sort of district storage site >Synergy works well on Windows 8 >Some software is not working on Windows 8. There is a list of software that has been tested and you can see it here: http://www.mpsaz.org/untethered/windows-81 >>The white button is the current list. The red button is to be used
Thanks for keeping those of us unavailable to attend yesterdays meeting in the loop!

The X means it works on Windows 8. Nothing in the box *usually* means it is still being tested, but it usually says that as well. I'll see if I can find out more.

The next lab tech meeting will be held April 16 at Madison Elementary (849 S Sunnyvale, Mesa) at 12:30 pm. I will try to take notes and post them for those who cannot attend. My school gets out at 12:15, so hopefully everyone can find a place to park. I would suggest coming in the south parking lot by entering on Elena Ave. Map attached.
Thank you Lora Linn. See you then. Have a great week. Ivy

For the meeting next week (16th)...1. Are there others that you know of that I don't have listed in the emails above that should be getting this? 2. I understand some schools don't get out of school on the 16th until 12:55. What time should we have the meeting?
I sent (I thought) an email through the list-serve, but I never got a copy back, so I don't know if that is still working. Thanks all!
Some people have already let me know that they can't come; however, for those who can or want to who work until 1:00, I think we should schedule for 1:30. Does that work for most people who want to come?

Some people have told me they don't get out until 12:55 or 1:00. I thought if we want them to come, we need to give them time to get here, so I thought 1:30 is when we should start the meeting. If most people want 1:00 or 12:30, I need to know. We have people coming from Ed Tech, I believe, so we need to let them know ASAP.
We've been doing 12:30 and prefer that. Don't have hours to do later.

I would like to attend the meeting but I am one of the schools that gets out at 12:55. If you are having the meeting early then I would appreciate notes of what is discussed.

Hi Is there anyone out there with spare speakers? We just go projectors and laptops for most of our teachers and could really use some. Also, I have a another request. This one for headphones. We had gotten the free hearing headphones and they are either falling apart or not working now. If you would happen to have any spare ones we would appreciate it. We have Dell Optiplex 780s with the small headphone hole.
Are the speakers through the projectors not loud enough, teachers in the classroom route the sound from the laptop to the projectors and most time this is sufficient.
We just set up for used surplus to pickup our extras. I'll see if I can pull some for you, I'm not sure how great they are. They haven't been used in a few years. Would like to give them a try?
My headphones are about the same as yours Robin. I think that's where I got them too. They last for several years.

Carson Junior has four bulbs for an NEC projector and no more NEC projectors of the correct model. The bulbs would work for Models VT460-465-560-660. We would love to trade all four to anyone willing to order Epson 83c bulbs for us. Let me know and we can make an arrangement. Thanks, Judi Judi Missel Computer Lab Tech & Bookstore Manager 480.472.2912
We'll take them! That would great! Thanks so much, Elaine Cecil Webster
