For those of with iMac labs and teaching iMovie:

You may have noticed that Quicktime movies don't appear to be
importable into iMovie. But with the use of Quicktime Pro you can
convert the QT movie into a form that iMovie will accept. The
attachment outlines the simple procedure. And it is simple, I have
done it.

An example of a QT movie you might want to convert and use excerpts
from (with proper credit) is a Star Wars movie trailer that is
available online. You can convert, import and then get the few scenes
you want for your iMovie.

Another use is if you a computer video camera (like what is used for
video conferencing). You can use it to record video footage as a QT
movie then convert and import. I have an iBot camera for conferencing
and it has software that can create QT movies. I used it for that and
then converted it to iMovie format. Once I did the quality seemed to
improve

One thing about Quicktime Pro is it is not free, it has to be purchased
