This is to announce the opening of a full-time biology/chemistry teaching
position beginning in school year 1999-2000 at St. Joseph Notre Dame High
School (SJND), 1011 Chestnut Street, Alameda, CA 94501, Ph:
(510)-523-1526.
SJND is a Catholic, coeducational, college preparatory high school operated
by St. Joseph Parish. Total enrollment (9-12) is about 550; over 95% of
our graduates continue to two or four year colleges. Faculty are truly
supportive and caring of students and each other. The school is located in
a settled, stable, middle-class neighborhood, but the students are drawn
from all over the East Bay, with roughly equal proportions of Caucasian,
Latino, Filipino, Asian, and African-American students. The school has a
strong program of Honors and AP courses, although much of the student body
comes from blue-collar families in which the parents did not attend
college.
The candidate would be expected to teach five classes, a mix (depending on
enrollment) of year-long sophomore biology, semester length Marine Biology,
and junior chemistry. Ability to teach semester length Environmental
Biology, year-long AP Biology, year-long Anatomy & Physiology, and
year-long Integrated Physical Science (using Hewitt's "Conceptual Physics"
as the text) would be pluses.
Send resume and cover letter to Mr. Anthony V. Aiello, Principal, St.
Joseph Notre Dame H.S., 1011 Chestnut Street, Alameda, CA 94501. SJND is
an equal opportunity employer.
Please pass this information on to anyone you know who might be interested.
Thank you.
Dr. Peter Vajk
Chair, Science Department, SJND
