lauran;

i know this is an agonizing experience, cuz it happened to me, too. here is
a work around for you:

you will have to build a new drawing toolbar.

click on tools, then click on customize.

you'll get a pop-up window with three tabs, the first tab is toolbars, and
you'll want to select it. once its selected click on the "new" button,
powerpoint will ask you to name this new toolbar...you might call it
"drawing 1". you will see that when you do this a small toolbar will show
up on the powerpoint desktop.

now click on the "commands" tab. you'll see two windows under this tab, one
called "categories" the other called "commands".

scroll down the "categories" list until you find the word "drawing" and
click on it. next go over to the "commands" window and drag whatever
drawing commands you want your new toolbar to contain. once you've done
this you have essentially built a new drawing toolbar (only remember, you
called it "drawing 1"). click close

now when you go to your view menu, you'll see a tool bar called "drawing
1". use it to replace the missing drwing tool bar.
