Heyas,
First, a disclaimer. The following is info I am providing. It is does
not reflect an IS recommendation or position
I have to admit I haven't been paying as much attention to OS 9 as an
operating in itself so much as a component to OS X. I do know the
single biggest problem that the labs that still use OS 9 encounter is
with your web browser. Internet Explorer doesn't quite cut it because
it is now obsolete.
I have been recommending trying Netscape 7.02 so your students can
connect to web sites IE won't. But this is a test. It should be
better but it still may fall short. I haven't got any feedback one
way or the other.
Recently I have found out there is one browser that is still being
supported for OS 9, that is iCab. iCab is actually supported for 8.5
and up. So it could be used for your classrooms that still have 5xxx
Apple computers. How good is it? I have no experience with it, but
ratings by various sources put it at a 6 out of 10
I would prefer to see everyone finish switching to OS X. But each of
you have your reasons and I will respect those and help you with the
best of my ability.
If you want to try iCab, http://www.icab.de/dl.php . I would
appreciate feedback for those that try it
Thanks
