Hello,
Here is a message I have sent to the Liaison at your school concerning
Mobile Lab for next school year. If your school has been visited and your
students used the Mobile lab this school year you will be able on a first
come space available after May 12 (beginning May 15) Talk to your Liaison
and see if any one is interested. Plan together which group (ie grade
level) would like to have the lab. May 1 is the first day scheduling is
available.
Mobile Lab Schedule
2006-07
We are preparing to schedule our Mobile Labs for the 2006-07 school year.
First priority will be given to schools that have never been able to
schedule the Mobile Labs. Check the Mobile Lab calendar to see when there
are open weeks in the schedule at: http://www.mpsaz.org/it/. (Note that
some weeks have been “blacked out” for cleaning and maintenance of the
Apple laptops.) Here is the procedure for scheduling the Mobile Labs for
2006-07:
• Bring your 1st 2nd and 3rd choices for the week you prefer to the
May 1st Elementary Liaison meeting.
• Schools that have never used the Mobile Labs will have preferred
sign-up until the end of the day on May 12th.
• Beginning on May 15th, the Mobile Lab schedule will be open to all
schools on a first-come, first-serve basis. Check the Mobile Lab calendar
to see available weeks. Again, when making requests, indicate 1st, 2nd,
and 3rd week choices. We will accommodate your requests whenever possible.
Call or email your Ed Tech trainer with your requests.
The following is the procedure to follow if you are scheduled for the 2006-
07 school year:
o The Mobile Lab classes are taught by the Ed Tech trainers.
o This is teacher training as well as student training; therefore it
is mandatory that the teacher is present and participating at all times
during the lessons.
o One lab per school per year is available, for a maximum of one
school week.
o To utilize resources effectively, please plan/coordinate your time
with other teachers/grade levels that may be involved.
o When planning for your Mobile Lab week, note that lessons usually
require at least 1 hr. and may require up to 1 ˝ hr. Please include a 5-10
minute break between lessons. Your trainer will contact you to schedule
your week.
o Due to the volume and nature of the equipment, we will need to
stay in one room during the entire day.
o Please provide a safe and secure environment for overnight
equipment storage.
o Bathroom breaks before the lessons are helpful.
• The schedule for instruction varies with the school depending on
your choice of lessons. PowerPoint and iMovie projects usually require a 4-
5 day commitment. The CSI lessons vary depending on which lessons you
choose. View the CSI lesson guidelines:
http://www.mpsaz.org/edtech/pdf/CSI_summary_table.pdf
• Here are some suggestions for projects:
o PowerPoint or iMovie on a topic of choice, i.e. states, countries,
ocean life.
o CSI (Cool Science Investigations) lessons using Temperature
Probes, ProScope digital microscope, and/or Heart Rate Monitor.
• All lessons are Standards based in one or more of the following
areas: Science, Social Studies, Math, Language Arts, and Technology.
• Your Ed Tech trainer will work with you on designing the schedule
for your week.
