We use Type to Learn Jr for our First Graders and Mavis Beacon
Teaches Typing with students beginning in second Grade. In Type to
Learn Jr, students learn to use both hands when working on the
keyboard. The on-screen keyboard is divided in half and color coded,
red for left hand and purple for right hand. The lessons take the
kids through the alphabet, numbers, and basic punctuation marks.
They learn to use the "Shift" key for uppercase letters and some
punctuation marks. They type words and learn to put spaces between
words in sentences They also learn to use the "return" key to move
to the next line. There are three games in the program; each game
has three levels. We have the students complete the typing practice
before they can move on to the games. It's amazing just how fast
they can be when they're motivated! It's easy and fun, but like
everything else, once they've been through the games they do not
choose to go back and try them again. You are welcome to come to
Edison if you would like to try out the program!
